Margaret Boyd Varner, a Columbia native, is a former special education and French
teacher in Richland County Districts One and Two and an English as a Foreign
Language teacher in Spain and France. She has a B.A. in French from Washington
and Lee University (1991), an MAT in Special Education from USC (1997) and IMBA
from USC’s Darla Moore School of Business (2005). Margaret has lived, studied and
worked in Paris, France (Université de Paris IV Sorbonne); Barcelona, Spain
(ESADE); and Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She also worked as an admissions
counselor for Youth For Understanding (YFU) International Exchange in
Washington, DC. She is actively involved as a parent volunteer at her children’s
school, Logan Elementary, an Arts in Basic Curriculum (ABC) school in Richland One,
where she has served as PTO president and currently serves as SIC chair. She also
serves on the school’s Fine Arts planning committee. Margaret is part of a volunteer
art education committee at the Columbia Museum of Art and a past board member
of the Friends of Richland Library. Her children are enrolled in the Suzuki strings
program at USC, have participated in USC’s Young Artists’ Workshop and acted in
youth productions in local theatres, Columbia Children’s Theatre and Town Theatre.
