Raphael D. Sligh

is an accomplished Vocalist and Educator. He has performed extensively across the country and abroad. His vocal abilities have been featured in Operatic, Musical Theater and Jazz genres. He has established himself as a powerful Bass/Baritone with a voice that commands the stage, performing various roles with Walt Disney Entertainment, Universal Studios Japan, The Riverdance and the Atlanta Opera just to name a few. He has traveled abroad with various Jazz ensembles to South Korea and Paris France. Raphael is a Musician and Workshop leader with the E.L.C.A. (Ecumenical Lutheran Church in America) where he has recently traveled to Arusha, Tanzania to lead an international conference at the Makimura University College. Raphael is in his 7th year of education having taught on the elementary, middle and high school levels. He has taught vocal and choral music in Washington D.C. with Friendship Public Charter School and Fillmore Arts Academy. He has also taught private lessons in voice and beginning piano with the Metropolitan School of the Arts, Alexandria VA. He is currently teaching music education here in Columbia with Richland School District One. With experience in the Public, Private, and Charter school sectors, Raphael has gained invaluable knowledge in the areas of Arts in Education, Education Reform and international school models. He has laid the groundwork for the Archangel Academy for the Arts (in inception); a local private instruction art school, and is excited about the opportunity to assist in the planning of the Midlands Arts Conservatory. Raphael is a native of Columbia SC. He holds a BA in Music, Vocal Performance, from Morehouse College in Atlanta GA.
